An introductory note from the Quorn team: One of the many glamorous perks of being a Quorn blog guest writer is that you may be the lucky writer who gets asked to try out exciting new Quorn products before they hit supermarket shelves. A brilliant new range is coming out this summer.
They’ll be in Sainsbury’s this April, followed by wider distribution from May.
Featuring delicious Quorn Mini Balls, Sweet Chilli Stir Fry Strips, Roast Style Sliced Fillets to Quorn Seasoned Steak Strips, we asked our friendly neighbourhood guest writer Layla Baldachin to roll up her sleeves and get cooking with these Quorn products! Read on for Layla’s adventures in pizza and stir-fry tastic recipe ideas using our new products. Over to you Layla!
As we await the slow approach of summer, balmy spring days can still mean a world of slap-up feasts spread out on a blanket in the grass, just like Blyton’s stories from the 40’s and 50’s.
To this end, I whole-heartedly accepted a challenge to try out a range of new Quorn products.
The Roast Style Sliced Fillets make a base for a great salad or pitta bread – just add chopped up peppers, lettuce, tomatoes and onion. The sauce is your choice: a few dollops of creamy mayo and mustard, or a balsamic dressing. Eat in the sun with ginger beer or use to pep up your packed lunch at work. This is now my favourite lunch treat!
The Mini Balls make great ‘spaghetti and meatballs’ – the flavour of the Mini Balls comes through the sauce very well. These balls make a great nibbly addition to a picnic as well. I could quite happily munch on a couple of these straight from the packet with a glass of homemade lemonade – which I did!
Moving on to the Seasoned Steak Strips, these do rather well in a sandwich if heated in a pan, combined with salad and smeared with mayonnaise and mustard. If you’ve been watching the ‘Chinese Food in 5 Minutes’ series on TV, substitute any meaty ingredients for these strips … they are fantastic if stir-fried with chopped chillies and onions, in black bean sauce.
Speaking of stir-fries, I was also presented with some Sweet Chilli Stir Fry Strips which are too convenient for words. They are coated with enough sauce to be able to simply throw in a wok with some veggies and just serve on noodles with some soy sauce. No garlic crushing, ginger chopping or spice smashing required. Easy as a takeaway! The sweet chilli coating complements those sweetish Chinese sauces as well, so you can add extra flavour like sweet and sour or kung-pao sauce and the coating on the Quorn strips won’t interfere with the flavours.
As a finale (driven mostly by jealousy of my meat-eating friends), I made my own meat feast pizza. This comprised a store-bought pizza base, some homemade tomato sauce, a mountain of cheese and sliced Quorn Mini Balls, Roast Style Sliced Fillets and Seasoned Steak Strips. The Quorn Mini Balls were really complemented by the stronger flavours of the tomato sauce and cheese. I’ll also try the Quorn Bacon Style Rashers next time!
Yes, yes, I can hear you saying “all this stir-frying isn’t very like Blyton’s picnics with the Famous Five”. Well I happen to know the children of the Faraway Tree series would choose Quorn products over sardine-flavoured ice cream!

Please please please consider vegatarians who are coeliac and eliminate gluten from your products. They all look so good
Thanks
Thank you for the review. The new products sound yummy! My mouth is watering just reading about them. I love using the fajita strips in wraps & stir frys, so these new products will be perfect for me. The Roast Style Sliced Fillets sound interesting, I think hubs will like those.
Sue
It’s all very well introducing new ranges but you cannot always find them on the shelves. Previous excellent items, such as pasta and large “steak” pies were very difficult to buy and went very quickly when they were put out in the shops.
I have been using the Quorn style bacon rashers for some time, they are really delicious. I use most of the Quorn products all the time. We don’t eat any meat at all.
you can not by all your products at all leading supermarkets
your Npadgett
how about making quorn shish kebabs
Talking of pizza made me think of the peperoni taste I miss so much. How about some Quorn peperoni slices?
I am so jealous that I did not preview these new Quorn products !!!!
i cant wait to try the new products, will they be available in all supermarkets,i still cant find the bacon bits anywhere in Swansea i am so dissapointed
Hi
I love the meatballs already, but think the Mini ones will make them far better, Better to get the taste through with the sauce, Great Idea.
I was 25 stone, and have now lost 3 so 22, my goal is 15 and quorn is helping a lot,I was a veggie anyway so quorn is brill for diet and veggie
Thanks keep it up with new ideas
Hi I just thought I would share with you that the Quorn spring rolls are lovely especially dipped in Sweet Chilli.
I love the quorn range, but find I have to do trips to sevaral supemarkets to stock up on my favorite items is there a reason for this?
Why can I no longer get the Quorn fajita packs which included the dips and wraps, will this be back on the shelves soon?
Looking forward to seeing new products at the supermarket.
I was wondering if you still made bacon pieces as me and my family loved these but can no longer find them.
cant wait to try these they sound fab!!
What happened to the family sized Quorn chicken and mushroom pie? brought it and loved it never to be found again!
Great ideas. I have eaten Quorn for many years now as it makes meals much easier for vegetarians. However, I have vegan friends who tell me they won’t eat Quorn because it contains eggs. Is this true of all Quorn products?
Hey just to say I adore your products as I like to eat healthily, however my local Sainsburys (despite being a large store) has recently stopped stocking the Barbecue Style Fillets since the new stuff has come in!! Please help!
Please! Please!
When will we be getting some vegetarian tuna chunks?
Every vegetarian I meet states that this is the one ‘meat’ item they miss.
There must surely be a demand??
I confess to love most of the Quorn products but would really wish they went all vegan.
I LOVE the new mini balls - well done Quorn!!
I Have been vegetarian for 15 years, i find that i get to like a product and then the supermarkets stop stocking it. It is so frustrating!! At the moment i cannot find Quorn bar~b~que pieces or Quorn mushroom and garlic breaded fillets. Where can i get these from?
I’d like to see Waitrose stocking more Quorn products. They used to have a decent range and still always have the newest products but their ’staple’ range is getting smaller and smaller. I also find I have to do the rounds of the supermarkets to find any with one decent range of products, and all of the supermarkets in my area are HUGE so they have no excuse!!
Hi,
Are any of you products suitable for vegans. If not can you add some to your selection.
Thanks
John
The new Quorn products sound fab, looking forward to seeing them in the shops. I thought my local Tesco was fairly good with their selection till I started looking at the Quorn website and realised how little they they stocked. I love the Quorn products that I’ve tried so far, what a shame my hubby takes a very bad reaction when he eats it
(tried twice now)so now it’s just me and my best friend who is gluten free that eats it. I know that there is gluten in the products thankfully she’s been ok with the Quorn product she has tried so far. It would be great to have some products that are totally gluten though. Keep up the great work.
Hi Peter - thanks for your suggestion. We currently don’t have ‘tuna-style’ pieces in our pipeline but we’ll definitely pass this on to our NPD team.
I really really like the quorn mini kievs but cannot seem to locate them anywhere, have you stopped making this range?
