The summer holidays are drawing to an end and there is a distinct nip in the air as we start the new month of September, which means for many families including mine, ‘back to school’ is upon us. Along with sorting uniforms, new shoes, school bags etc the packed lunch is very important and in my household a number one priority.
After choosing the all important character lunchbox, be it Princesses or Ben 10, negotiating with your ‘little people’ what you put in their lunch box and what they will actually eat whilst at school is a feat in itself. Variety and taste is the key to a happy lunch box and for us parents to include healthier options that are quick and easy to pack.
The packed lunch doesn’t need to be a soggy sandwich, keep it interesting and use different types of bread. Quorn Deli Chicken & Ham Style works really well in wraps, pittas, bagels, baguettes, ciabatta and naan. Use different salads and vegetables to contribute to texture, colour and help the kids to get their five a day.
Quorn Deli Ham Slices and your child’s favourite cheese with a little pickle in a soft flour tortilla wrap is a favourite in my house. My children love the Quorn Cocktail Sausages with a little dip – they taste delicious, are easy to eat and can be eaten cold.
Quorn Picnic Eggs, Quorn Mini Sausage Rolls and Quorn Mini Ham Style & Cheese Quiches are a child-friendly size, easy, nutritious and tasty, making for a fabulous lunch box.
Finally, it’s a good idea that the packed lunch is kept in a refrigerator at school or if this isn’t possible, small ice packs can be purchased to keep the contents at a safe temperature.
If anyone has any top tips or recipes using Quorn products for school packed lunches I would love to hear about them.
Here’s looking forward to the mad school morning rush and some very happy packed lunches!
